MycoBase presented at the Westerdijk Institute seminar series

On Monday 12 October 2026, project leader Dr. Duong Vu presented MycoBase at the Westerdijk Institute seminar series, in a talk titled “From Scattered Data to Connected Knowledge: Building FAIR Fungal Research Infrastructure with MycoBase and FUNGI-NL.”

The seminar brought together researchers and staff of the institute to discuss a challenge that touches almost every field of mycology: knowledge about fungi is spread across collections, databases and decades of literature. MycoBase aims to bring these sources together in one open, curated resource, built on the Westerdijk Institute’s collections and following the FAIR principles. Duong also introduced FUNGI-NL, a related initiative to make Dutch fungal research data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

Duong closed the talk with an invitation to colleagues to get involved: by contributing strain and species data, by joining as curators, and by giving feedback as the platform takes shape.
